The Magus Circle Guide

Magus Mansion and the six mages

Quick answer

The mansion is your between-runs base: unlock familiars, brew potions, grow a garden, wager winnings and talk to the six mages — only part of the roster is officially named, so we publish only what we could verify.

Between runs you return to the Magus Mansion — the hub where the six mages live, your meta-progression bank sits, and the story quietly unfolds. Officially it is where you "get to know your fellow mages and uncover the secrets of The Circle" (Steam store page). Here is everything confirmed about the hub and its crew as of launch day.

The six mages

The store page confirms 6 playable mages, each with "their own skill trees, abilities and emotional baggage." Only part of the roster was verifiable from official sources and demo player reports at the time of writing:

What the mansion offers between runs

All official (Steam key features + bywitchlight.com):

  • Familiars — unlockable companions ("Raise your familiars" per the store blurb).
  • Wager your winnings — a betting mechanic at the hub.
  • Concoct potions and grow a garden — two of the listed progression pillars.
  • Story beats — explore the manor, befriend mages, uncover why you were summoned to face the Tide.
  • Pace yourself: Steam lists Save Anytime and Playable at your own pace, so the hub is a natural breath between waves.

Hub interactions demo players documented (reported)

From the 195-review demo sample and 12 discussion threads:

  • Tarot shop — a hub fixture; a demo player found a soft-lock by spam-drawing against the bed-sign door (3.0h, bug report — may be fixed at launch).
  • Globe, telescope, mage conversations — the same report lists these as mansion activities.
  • Menu friction — one critical review: "the main lobby is really weird, there's no explanation on how to interact" — if interaction feels inconsistent in the launch build, you are not alone; report it and we will document the fix.

How the hub ties into runs

  1. Run ends (win or die) → return to mansion.
  2. Spend/keep winnings, talk to mages, grow progression (familiars, potions, garden, wagers).
  3. Story fragments unlock as you meet the crew.
  4. Start the next Tide with stronger picks — official loop is "learn new powers, befriend other mages, uncover why you were summoned."
